Shortly after making his post about the disappearance of Adam Martin (i.e. during 2x01), Walter gets an actual chance to slide into the DMs of AfricanGrey. Better known as Misty Fucking Quigley, she has been looking for others from her home universe after being stuck on an interdimensional space barge. A version of Lottie Matthews claims responsibility for the kidnapping of another long-term barge resident, Natalie Scatorccio. Walter is fascinated by the overall concept and scrolls through a little light drama about coma sickness and Florian's recent killing of Envy.

Walter loses his memories of the experience (and the rest of season 2 proceeds as normal) - he meets Misty Quigley in person to investigate the kidnapping of Natalie Scatorccio by Lottie Matthews, and ultimately kills Kevyn Tan in an effort to protect Misty from incrimination in the murder of Adam Martin. He receives the baffling information that Misty has "killed her best friend". Shortly after this, he suffers a stroke and ends up deliriously agreeing to a second chance at life on the barge. He chooses to keep Misty at arm's length and warn her about the kidnapping as if they had still not met. Although he confides in the first person he meets, Pyotr, about committing a murder, he is quickly shaken by the lack of pressure to tell anyone else about his crimes, the dependence on wardens for daily luxuries, the suspiciously compliant nature of the inmate speakeasy and the news of a recent multiannual unreality experience known as a breach.

Walter confides in Pyotr his suspicion that the barge is a death cult that brainwashes people, quickly cemented when a dream and memory sharing flood reveals that Misty is staying on as a warden to reverse her crimes against Jessica Roberts - which had gone undetected, unlike the disappearance of Adam Martin. Meanwhile, Dennis Collins has gone on a senseless rampage with targets including Allan of "Allan and Midge" fame and Will Graham, the partner of Malcolm Bright. Malcolm is a profiler whom Walter has been treating like his warden, and they have a special bond after a dream of visiting their criminal relatives as children. Arthur Lester, a seemingly mild-mannered detective who had been a warden but ended up demoted after some time back home, ends up in his dreambubble and struggles against Walter's seemingly saccharine attempts to escort him out, he witnesses his final moments with Misty - and bizarrely ignores them in favor of Natalie.

Walter attempts to present himself as a silly little guy who loves musical theater. He is temporarily paired with Taylor Kiryu, whom he secretly looks down on as a teenage cult victim. A frantic new inmate attacks several people on the barge before one inmate finally defends themselves and leads her to bleed out in the corridor. Significantly more effort is put into a callout post about Lark Tenant's fight with his temporary inmate - of all people Arthur Lester. Walter snaps and finally requests a weapon from Trevor, who is basically inmate Jesus.

Misty finally confronts Walter because Arthur told him about the dream. Though he tells her the truth, he also gets further convinced she has been beaten down and brainwashed. Inspired by Trevor being "usurped" as the monitor, he introduces himself to Lark and Will, and when the port comes he presents Pyotr with a scheme for recruiting the resistance.

Walter wakes up from his coma to find he has been permanently paired with Malcolm Bright and applies himself to continue gathering his allies, but he is given real problems when killed by the rampaging vampire Eric, and then being replaced by his sweet-on-the-surface grandmother derails his plans... Reeling from the arrival of Lottie and apparent confirmation of her machinations, he throws himself back into socializing with those recovering from the flood.

Malcolm announces that he is "investigating" a violent incident, leading Walter to beg on his knees for acknowledgment that, in his view, he is denied. Walter finally gives out the invitations to his little salon, where he explains that his plan is to rally the inmates and socially pressure Charlie Dowd from the Monitor of Unpaired Inmates position so that Trevor Belmont can take his place.

In one last burst of frustration, Walter leaves Malcolm a riddle to solve, which Malcolm cannot decouple from inexcusable degradation. In the "Trial for Sinners", Walter meets Otherworld Misty, a cute kelpie who is brutally and permanently murdered. It will come to light that Allan killed John Silver for an incomprehensible reason and that Trevor made it clear Pyotr should keep his mouth shut after Trevor's inmate Blitz stabbed him.

The cruise ship crashes. With Pyotr taking care of him, Walter whiles away his time on the "Narrenschiff", a different Barge, complete with a Cap'n to beseech for requests - like Malcolm's medication. He is slashed by Justine "Barge a little" in a blood sacrifice. Despite the revelation that the Cap'n of this pirate ship has taken them hostage, Walter is still devastated that they "loosen the hold", which appears tantamount to permanently murdering dozens of people.

February/March 2025

After San Ortrera and Trevor's demotion for a completely different fiasco, Walter tells Pyotr he has come to the conclusion that "maybe there is no reason" (for the alleged morality imposed on inmates). Walter finally proposes a form of the election for the Monitor of Unpaired Inmates and manages to prevent suspicion about his motives from spiraling totally out of control. He approaches Pyotr's warden to exhort her to allow the port, which overstepped the inmate's boundaries and tested their friendship to its limit. With suspicious timing, Arthur presents the Inmate Bill of Rights (as its sponsor, not author), which Walter perceives as the "Inmate Bill of Rights to Shut Up".
